Our office is here to help you navigate provincial government programs and services.
We can support you with things like MSI and health coverage, housing, income assistance, education concerns, labour standards, provincial roads, and understanding provincial forms or processes. If it’s a provincial program, we can usually help.
We can contact provincial departments on your behalf, clarify rules or decisions, request updates, and help keep communication moving.  We can’t guarantee outcomes or override departmental decisions, but we’ll make sure your concern is heard.

Reach out any time you’re having trouble with a provincial service or aren’t sure where to go. Common examples include:

  • Issues with MSI or health coverage
  • Housing Nova Scotia applications, repairs, or rent supplement questions
  • Income Assistance or Disability Support Program concerns
  • Residential Tenancies questions
  • School or childcare issues
  • Problems with provincial roads or traffic
  • Labour standards questions
  • Help understanding provincial paperwork

And if you’re not sure whether something is provincial or federal — just ask. We’ll point you in the right direction.

Yes, absolutely.
We can contact provincial departments on your behalf, clarify rules or decisions, request updates, and help keep communication moving.
We can’t guarantee outcomes or override departmental decisions, but we’ll make sure your concern is heard

We can help with:

  • Navigating provincial programs

  • Meetings with the MLA about policy, legislative or community issues

Yes — if it’s an urgent provincial issue such as a sudden loss of benefits, a serious housing concern, or trouble accessing essential services.  However, please know that we are a service provider and our office does not have round the clock staffing.  For emergencies, always call 911, and for direct or immediate access to provincial programs, call 811.

MLAs are representatives in Nova Scotia’s Legislature, and handle provincial matters, like:

  • MSI and health coverage
  • Education and childcare
  • Housing and tenancy rules
  • Labour standards
  • Provincial roads and highways
  • Income assistance and provincial programs

MPs are representatives in Canda’s Parliament, and handle federal matters, like:

  • Passports
  • CRA and taxes
  • Employment Insurance
  • CPP, OAS, GIS
  • Immigration
  • Other federal benefits

It’s provincial if it relates to healthcare, MSI, education, childcare, housing, tenancy, provincial roads or highways, labour standards, or any program run by a Nova Scotia department.
If it involves taxes, passports, immigration, EI, CPP, OAS, GIS, or the CRA — that’s federal.

If you’re unsure, just call us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Municipalities look after things like:

  • Zoning and building permits
  • Local roads
  • Water and sewer
  • Property taxes

These aren’t handled by the MLA office — but we’ll happily direct you to the right municipal contact.

Call the MLA for: MSI, housing, provincial education issues, labour standards, provincial roads, income assistance, or other provincial programs.
Call the MP for: passports, CRA, EI, CPP, OAS, GIS, and immigration.
If you’re unsure, reach out and we can direct you to the right place.

Even if we can’t handle something directly, we’ll guide you to the right place.

Residents of Lunenburg West are welcome to meet with the MLA.
Our staff may gather some details first so the MLA is fully prepared for the conversation.

It’s helpful to have:

  • Your name and address
  • Any file or reference numbers
  • Dates of letters, decisions, or appointments
  • Relevant documents
  • A brief summary of your situation

We’ll review your details, obtain your consent where necessary, reach out to the appropriate provincial department, follow up as needed, and keep you updated.
If the situation requires it, we will escalate it within the department.
